OID description

OID: (ASN.1 notation)
(dot notation)
(OID-IRI notation)
  "identified-organization" is a standardized identifier (this identifier may be used without its associated number in the ASN.1 notation of an OID).
  This is a frozen OID (no more child OIDs can be added to the existing ones).

Description:

International research or industry organizations registered at ITU-T

Information:

Registration procedures for this OID are specified in Rec. ITU-T X.669.

Child OIDs are values assigned by the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau (TSB). Subsequent OIDs are determined as necessary by the identified organization.

Organizations which may find this OID useful include:
  • recognized operating agencies not operating a public data network;
  • scientific and industrial organizations;
  • regional standards organizations; and
  • multi-national organizations.

Comment coming out from the minutes of the June 2003 meeting of the ASN.1 Group, dedicated to republication of the ITU-T X.660 series of Recommendations:
"A partial review of ITU-T X.669 was undertaken. It became clear that the title and early text was misleading, because it implied that it was allocating arcs immediately beneath itu-t(0). It is in fact clear in later text that it acknowledges that the registration authority for all such arcs is Rec. ITU-T X.660 itself. ITU-T X.669 is concerned solely with specifying the operation of a registration authority for allocating arcs beneath {itu-t(0) identified-organization(4)}, and expects that should further arcs be defined beneath the itu-t(0) arc, the associated registration procedures for arcs beneath any such new arc will be added to ITU-T X.669. It would be appropriate to change the title of ITU-T X.669 to more correctly reflect its actual scope. In addition, the early introductory text including the summary and scope clause need major revision to avoid giving a misleading impression."
